Barcelona is massive and chaotic in the best way – there's always something happening, whether you're wandering the Gothic Quarter's medieval streets or checking out Gaudí's wild creations like the Sagrada Família. The city has this incredible energy, a mix of history, art, and modern culture all packed together. You've got beaches right in the city, world-class museums, amazing food, and neighborhoods that each feel completely different from one another. It can be overwhelming at first, but that's part of the appeal – there's always something new to discover around the next corner. If you're staying in Salou or visiting Tarragona and Reus, Barcelona is worth the trip for a few days. It's the big city experience in Catalonia, and you'll understand why so many people are drawn here. Just be prepared for crowds, especially in peak season, but the city's got enough character and depth to handle the tourism.
1 hour drive, also connection by train and bus.
Tarragona is a coastal city with serious history – you can walk through Roman ruins that feel like they're part of everyday life here. The old town sits right above the sea, with narrow streets that wind up to the cathedral, and the views from up there are incredible. The waterfront is lined with beaches and a pleasant promenade where you can grab a coffee or meal and watch the Mediterranean. It's got that mix of ancient heritage and modern beach town energy that makes it feel alive. If you're based in Salou, Tarragona is definitely worth a day trip – it's got way more depth than the resort scene, with museums, local restaurants, and that authentic Spanish coastal vibe. Wander the old quarter, soak up the atmosphere, and you'll understand why people have been drawn to this place for thousands of years.
10 min drive and easy connection by bus or train.
Reus pulls you in with its modernist buildings and narrow plazas where locals gather on terraces for a drink. It's where Gaudí was born, and you can feel that creative spirit throughout the city – the architecture really stands out. The place is famous for vermouth too, so grab a glass and settle into one of the many bars and cafés scattered around town. If you're staying in Salou and want to escape the beach scene for a day, Reus is close by and worth the trip. It's got real character, the kind of place that feels lived-in rather than polished, and that's exactly what makes it special. You'll find genuine Catalan culture here, not just tourist stuff.
10 min drive and easy connection with bus and train.

Whether you're hiking with kids or going solo, there are routes for every level, and the views reward you at every turn. The medieval villages scattered through the region – places like Siurana itself, Cornudella, and the other stone-built towns – feel frozen in time, and wandering their narrow streets is like stepping back centuries. It's the real Catalonia, the part that doesn't make it into the guidebooks but should. If you're staying in Salou or visiting the cities, spending a day or two out here reminds you why this region is special beyond the beaches and famous landmarks. Bring water, comfortable shoes, and be ready to discover places that feel completely yours.
